Tune town: A spotlight on San Diego musician Rob Stone
From Jewel, Switchfoot and P.O.D. to Tom Waits, Rocket From The Crypt and Andra Day, this fair city has produced more than its fair share of top talent over the years.
Here’s a look at Rob Stone, a local musician that’s worth tuning into now.
About the musician
Established: 2013
Genre: Hip-hop
Label: RCA Records
Biggest hit: “Chill Bill”
Worst day job: “My first job at Sea World. I worked at the Shipwreck Cafe and I hated everything about it - except the free Sea World and Del Mar Fair tickets.”
If it weren’t for music, I’d be: “I don’t know, probably lost.”
Next local gig: April 9 at The Observatory (2891 University Ave., North Park).
Of note: On March 3, Rob Stone performed at a concert headlined by Los Angeles rapper YG at the Cal Coast Credit Union Open Air Theater at SDSU. “It’s the best gig I’ve done because it was the biggest crowd yet and it was in my hometown.”
“My music is me, and only I can do me. I just want to make people feel.”
