Former San Diegan Luke Skywalker then and now

You just can’t escape the “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” mania.

Opening this Thursday, the seventh installment of the franchise is expected to shatter box office records.

With members of the original cast appearing in the film, it’s important to note that Mark Hamill, aka Luke Skywalker, is a former Clairemont resident who attended Hale Junior High School and James Madison High School (before moving to Virginia).

But, the ultimate throwback? A picture of Hamill promoting “Star Wars” at San Diego Comic-Con in 1976. Looking like he spent a day at La Jolla Shores, a bronzed Luke Skywalker proudly stands next to an early Star Wars banner.

A crazy contrast when paired next to his last appearance at the Con with Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford back in July.
