Thanksgiving officially kicks off the holiday shopping season, with about 2 million more people projected to shop Thursday through Cyber Monday compared to last year, according to a survey by the National Retail Federation and Prosper Insights & Analytics.

Some two-thirds of those surveyed in early November said they intended to shop Thanksgiving weekend this year, the Retail Federation said. That amounts to an estimated 158.3 million people, up from 156.6 million last year but still below the 165.3 million in 2019.

The coronavirus pandemic has not only led to a trend of consumers shopping earlier, the report said, but it has also shifted the holiday hours of brick-and-mortar stores. Many big-box retailers, like Target, have decided to stay closed on Thanksgiving Day as they did last year. But what hasn’t changed for retailers is the Black Friday tradition of opening their doors to shoppers early on Friday for limited-time sales.

Whether you’re looking for last-minute ingredients for turkey day or you’re trying to get a jump start on holiday gift purchases, here’s a look at local retailers and grocery stores that will be open and who will be closed on Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday.
