The Media Arts Center San Diego announced Tuesday that it will relocate from North Park to the new UC San Diego building at Park Boulevard and Market Street in the East Village.

Founded in 1992, Media Arts Center San Diego has been behind the San Diego Latino Film Festival, the Digital Gym Cinema and educational initiatives, such as the Teen Producers Project and Youth Media and Tech Camps.

“We are excited to finally be able to announce our new partnership with UC San Diego. We want to thank Mary Walshok and all those at the University of California San Diego who have championed our community film and education programs in order to make this a reality,” Ethan van Thillo, Media Arts Center executive director and founder, said in a news release.

The four-story 66,750-square-foot office building is located at a San Diego Trolley stop.

The Media Arts Center office will be on the third floor and include classrooms for media education for youth and teens.

The Digital Gym Cinema will be on the second floor, adjacent to gallery space and an overlook terrace. Concession stands will operate during cinema hours.

Digital Gym Cinema’s soft launch date is October 2021.
