The Friday schedule for Comic-Con’s online-only event features Charlize Theron and a lot of offerings from The Walking Dead shows

The third day of the online-only Comic-Con@Home — Friday, July 24 — will feature a huge showing from The Walking Dead family of shows and a solo panel for actress Charlize Theron.

Canceled because of COVID-19, Comic-Con International decided on broadcasting all panels for free at Youtube.com/user/ComicCon.

Friday’s main draw will likely be panels with the casts of all three “The Walking Dead” shows, a Charlize Theron talk about the evolution of the modern female action hero and her famous roles, a presentation of the newest comics from Marvel and a panel featuring creators from HBO Max animation.

Charlize Theron

Actress and producer Charlize Theron reflects on portraying over two decades of action heroes, from Æon Flux to The Old Guard’s Andromache, Mad Max: Fury Road’s Furiosa to Atomic Blonde’s Lorraine Broughton. In a lengthy retrospective Q&A moderated by IGN’s Terri Schwartz, Theron will discuss the evolution of the modern female action hero, the roles that inspired her and what drives her to constantly push her limits with fight training.

DC Comics

Whether its Batman’s final showdown with The Joker, Wonder Woman taking on new adventures, or the Man of Steel facing threats from Metropolis and across the cosmos, DC is the place to be for the best storytellers lending their talents to the World’s Greatest Super Heroes! Don’t miss your chance to hear first-hand from these comic book legends in the making as they give you the inside scoop on what’s in store for Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and other DC heroes and villains!

Lights, Camera, LGBTQI-dentity! Never Alone

YOU have the starring role in your own hero’s journey — but the spotlight can be lonely. And Pop Culture Hero Coalition (@SuperheroIRL) stands united as you meet allies, mentors, and opposition along the way. If you’re isolated and away from your usual support systems, connect with Ru Paul’s Drag Race contestants Pandora Boxx, Jackie Cox, and Silky Nutmeg Ganache, who will bolster your identity with their hard-won stories of resilience — and explore our interactive comic book, Lights, Camera, LGBTQI-dentity! Never Alone, which features these Queens as mentors for LGBTQIA youth. We wanna “stand with you on the mountain” and celebrate your identity with multi-award winning vocal artist Darren Hayes (Savage Garden). And proclaim love & inclusion with iconic NOH8 Campaign Founders Adam Bouska and Jeff Parshley. Featuring Lights, Camera, Identity! Hot Wheels

The team behind the No. 1-selling toy in world is back to bring you the latest & greatest in Hot Wheels vehicle design for this year’s Comic-Con@Home virtual event! Moderated by Mattel’s Molly Hampton (global marketing manager), this panel will feature three key Hot Wheels designers Bryan Benedict (senior manager, vehicles product design), Chris Colangelo (manager, vehicles product design), and Sam Kok (key lead designer, vehicles packaging) as they give you a behind the scenes look at the 2020 Mattel Creations Hot Wheels exclusives for Comic-Con@Home, release never-before-seen product sneaks and answer fans’ most important questions.

Marvel Comics

Marvel editor-in-chief C.B. Cebulski breaks down all the latest and greatest coming from the House of Ideas with some of Marvel’s most epic creators! Tom Brevoort, Al Ewing, and Dan Slott will dive into the cosmic calamity coming to Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in the pages of Empyre! An army is gathering in the latest X-Men crossover event, X of Swords, and Jordan White, Tini Howard, and Gerry Duggan have all the juicy details! Nick Lowe, Nick Spencer, and Mark Bagley will discuss the landmark Amazing Spider-Man #850 ushering in the return of the Green Goblin! Plus Nick Lowe rejoins the panel to discuss the return of the classic Marvel character, Werewolf by Night, with creators Taboo and Ben Jackendoff! Be there, True Believers!

Star Wars Audiobooks

Get the inside scoop on the newest Star Wars Audiobook Original, Doctor Aphra, from inception to the incredible finished product performed by a full cast. You’ll hear from audiobook narrators Marc Thompson and Emily Woo Zeller, author Sarah Kuhn, and Del Rey editor Elizabeth Schaefer as they discuss this adaptation of the critically acclaimed Marvel comics series where Dr. Aphra teams up with Darth Vader, in a conversation moderated by audiobook producer Nick Martorelli.

Vikings

Michael Hirst, Travis Fimmel, Katheryn Winnick, Alex Ludwig, Clive Standen, and Jordan Patrick Smith will discuss their favorite moments from the past six and a half seasons, favorite fan interactions, and what makes Vikings so extraordinary. The panel will be moderated by Kate Hahn, senior writer, TV Guide magazine.

Fear the Walking Dead

Fear the Walking Dead will present a panel for the series’ upcoming sixth season, premiering later this year. Moderated by Chris Hardwick, the panel will feature TWDU chief content officer Scott M. Gimple, showrunners and executive producers Andrew Chambliss and Ian Goldberg, and cast members Lennie James, Alycia Debnam-Carey, Colman Domingo, Danay Garcia, Karen David, Jenna Elfman, and Rubén Blades. Season six of Fear the Walking Dead explores what has become of the unlikely family once united by a mission to help those in need. After being torn apart by Virginia (Colby Minifie) and her Pioneers, the group is now dispersed across her far-reaching settlements. Morgan’s (James) last message at the end of season five implored the group to “Just Live” and this season we’ll see what that means to each of them. Some will find the stability and opportunity within Virginia’s communities to be intriguing, some will sink into darkness, while others will fight back against what has been forced upon them. Life behind Virginia’s walls will test each and every one of them in different ways, forcing them to define who they are in this new world.

Lucasfilm Publishing

Some of the biggest and best Star Wars authors talk about some of their exciting new projects set in a galaxy far, far away. Featuring Timothy Zahn, Alex Segura, Justina Ireland, George Mann, Preeti Chhibber, Tom Angleberger, Rebecca Roanhorse, Greg Pak, and Alyssa Wong. Moderated by This Week In Star Wars host Kristin Baver and Lucasfilm Publishing senior editor Robert Simpson.

Zombies and Coronavirus: Planning for the Next Big Outbreak

The Walking Dead

The Walking Dead will make its 11th San Diego Comic-Con appearance with a panel spotlighting “A Certain Doom, “ which will air as a standalone episode later this year. Moderated by Chris Hardwick (Talking Dead), the panel will feature TWDU chief content officer Scott M. Gimple, showrunner and executive producer Angela Kang, executive producer Greg Nicotero, who directed the episode, and cast members Norman Reedus, Melissa McBride, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Lauren Cohan, Josh McDermitt, Seth Gilliam, Ross Marquand, Khary Payton, and Paola Lazaro. In The Walking Dead episode 1016, “A Certain Doom, “ Beta engages the final battle of the Whisperer War.

1 to 2 p.m.

IDW: Draw a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle

TMNT co-creator Kevin Eastman, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles writer and artist Sophie Campbell, and Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles artist Chad Thomas bring the turtles to life demonstrate how to draw everyone’s favorite ninja turtles while discussing the IDW TMNT comics with moderator Caleb Goellner (journalist, author, writer).

1 to 2 p.m.

The Walking Dead: World Beyond

The Walking Dead: World Beyond makes its Comic-Con International debut as the third series in wildly successful The Walking Dead Universe. Moderated by Chris Hardwick, the series’ panel will feature TWDU chief content officer Scott M. Gimple, showrunner and executive producer Matt Negrete and cast members Aliyah Royale, Alexa Mansour, Hal Cumpston, Nicholas Cantu, Nico Tortorella, Julia Ormond, and Joe Holt. The Walking Dead: World Beyond delves into a new mythology and story that follows the first generation raised in a surviving civilization of the post-apocalyptic world. Two sisters along with two friends leave a place of safety and comfort to brave dangers, known and unknown, living and undead on an important quest. Pursued by those who wish to protect them and those who wish to harm them, a tale of growing up and transformation unfurls across dangerous terrain, challenging everything they know about the world, themselves and each other. Some will become heroes. Some will become villains. But all of them will find the truths they seek.

2 to 3 p.m.

HBO Max: Adult Animation Panel

Show creators of Robot Chicken, Samurai Jack, Genndy Tartakovsky’s Primal, Black Dynamite, Lazor Wulf, and Final Space share their favorite San Diego Comic-Con memories. Panelists include Seth Green, Matthew Senreich, Genndy Tartakovsky, Carl Jones, Henry Bonsu, and Olan Rogers.

3 to 4 p.m.

Bob’s Burgers

The Emmy Award-winning animated FOX series Bob’s Burgers invites fans into their homes for a virtual panel with all of the laughs and surprises they generally bring to the Indigo Ballroom. Creator and executive producer Loren Bouchard will break news about the upcoming season, and the always entertaining cast including H. Jon Benjamin, John Roberts, Kristen Schaal, Eugene Mirman, Dan Mintz, and Larry Murphy will have you howling with laughter with never-before-seen footage, followed by a lively panel discussion and fan Q&A.

Todd McFarlane

Host Jim Viscardi, executive editor of Comicbook.com, and Todd McFarlane, Spawn and Venom creator, McFarlane Toys’ CEO and president of Image Comics, talk about all your favorite geekdom things. McFarlane gives fans a sneak peek into the future of upcoming toys, comics, and what’s on his entertainment horizon.

Archer

Who says staying home is boring? Archer, FXX’s award-winning animated comedy, returns for its 11th season later this year and follows Sterling Archer and his return to the spy world after a three-year coma. But first, join the voice cast of Aisha Tyler, Chris Parnell, Judy Greer, Amber Nash, and Lucky Yates, plus executive producer Casey Willis for a lively discussion and the reveal of not-to-be-missed details about the new season.

Eisner Awards

The “Oscars” of the comics industry honors comics creators and their works in 32 categories, including the Will Eisner Hall of Fame. Hosted by Phil LaMarr, the actor/voice actor/comedian known for roles in animated series including Green Lantern/John Stewart and Ed Reiss in Justice League and Justice League Unlimited, Hermes Conrad in Futurama, and the title characters on both Samurai Jack and Static Shock. His film and TV acting credits include Pulp Fiction, Free Enterprise, Veep, Get Shorty, and Supergirl. The recipients of the 2020 Bob Clampett Humanitarian Award will also be announced.
