Daniela Martinez walked away with the $50,000 Sweets Showdown grand prize, with Blackmarket Bakery owner Rachel Klemek taking home second place.
Daniela Martinez, pastry chef at Il Dandy and ARAMA, was crowned the winner last month of Food Network’s competition reality show “Chopped: Sweets Showdown: Grand Finale.”
The finale episode, which aired Oct. 29, featured celebrity chef judges Marc Murphy, Alex Guarnaschelli and Martha Stewart. On the show, Martinez and her fellow competitors Tarron Hatton, Ivan Marquez and Rachel Klemek of Orange County (owner of Blackmarket Bakery in North Park, who came in second) complete three challenges centered around sweets. In the final round, Martinez opted for cotton candy to complete her flambé dish, which won the judges over. Along with bragging rights, Martinez walked away with the $50,000 Sweets Showdown grand prize.
