Asian eateries Harumama and Blue Ocean Sushi have docked in the space formerly occupied by The Hake.

The two restaurants — created by husband-wife-team Jenny and James Pyo, owners of Love Boat Sushi, Pokewan, Blue Ocean Robata and Sushi Bar in Carlsbad and Harumama in Little Italy and Carlsbad — share the space, with Harumama situated in the front and Blue Ocean Sushi located oceanfront toward the back of the restaurant with views of La Jolla Cove.

Seating 58 people, Harumama offers cult-favorite steamed buns shaped like animal characters like pigs, chickens, panda, each holding a different filling (chicken, pork, mushroom and purple sweet potato). The menu mirrors the Little Italy and Carlsbad sites, but with a contemporary twist on traditional ramen, noodles, buns and the like.

Blue Ocean Sushi seats 90 and offers a range of sushi and sashimi. Items unique to the eatery include scallops with black rice risotto, rib-eye steak, port wine crispy duck breast and campfire pineapple with beef, shrimp, quail egg, pineapple and vegetables wok-seared in pineapple sauce.
