Dealer's choice: Try a Sycuan IPA from Thorn Brewing

A local beer to spend some time with this September.

Beer: Sycuan IPA

Why: With fruit-forward hops and a dry finish, this is a modified old-school San Diego IPA, amped up by a splash more citrus and just a skosh less pine sap. A relatively light body and clean finish make this a satisfying chiller for scorching Santa Ana afternoons.

Geek out: 6 percent alcohol by volume; Sycuan Blonde, also made by Thorn, is an easier 5 percent.

Seek out: Both the IPA and the blonde are found exclusively at the recently renovated Sycuan Casino Resort.

Peter Rowe

Peter joined The San Diego Union-Tribune in 1984. A native Californian who grew up in Encinitas, Rowe is a graduate of UC Berkeley and Northwestern University.
