Here for the beer
Launching the craft beer program at My Yard Live is head brewer Benjamin “Shaggy” Blaney. He brings a wealth of experience to the new venture, as former Director of Brewing at Mason Ale Works, and five years at The Lost Abbey/Port Brewing/The Hop Concept Brewing Co.
While swaying to live music, guests can select from a range of beer styles, including a blonde, saison, pale ale, amber, American brown, dry Irish stout, Belgian dubbel and several IPAs, like the San Diego Steel Toes, a West Coast style IPA made in collaboration with Chula Vista Brewing. (Lager fans, stay tuned for a crisp pilsner coming out of the tank by the end of July).
Blaney is also working with local farmers to tease out fruit variants for the blonde, like a possible strawberry-mango version, and other yet-to-be-disclosed combinations.
Brews at My Yard Live serve double duty behind the scenes in the kitchen, with the Red Rover amber starring in BBQ sauces, and the house pale ale appearing in the hummus.
For pairing ideas, Blaney recommends the Lawn Darts IPA (with Nelson, Motueka, Cascade, and Citra hops) with any of the smoked meats and toast boards on the menu, and the Belgian dubbel for highlighting sweet treats at the end of the meal.
