San Diego speakeasies celebrate the repeal of Prohibition

Oculto 477 and Prohibition host Repeal Day parties on Dec. 5

Oculto 477 honors the anniversary of the historic repeal of Prohibition by hosting a Prohibition Party. Hidden inside Tahona, the Prohibition-style speakeasy will serve guests a menu of notable cocktails created by bartenders of yesteryear: from Shims and Sours to Old Fashioneds and Fizzes.

A special drink menu, including two of the restaurant’s concoctions, will be served at the bar and dining area throughout the evening. Guests are encouraged to dress in circa-1920s fashions.

5 p.m. to midnight Dec. 5. 2414 San Diego Ave., San Diego.

Prohibition will host a Repeal Day celebration Dec. 5 to commemorate the official end of the Prohibition era.

Lead bartender Ryan Andrews will serve up the bar’s signature Old Fashioned, a combination of rye whiskey, house-made demerara sugar, R&D Bitters Aromatic #7 and R&D cherry apple bitters. Guests can purchase the cocktail for $1 from 8 to 9 p.m. There will be live music starting at 9:30 p.m.

548 Fifth Ave., Gaslamp Quarter. (619) 501-1919.
