The Taco Stand to open downtown and Encinitas locations
Inspired by the taco stands and taquerias of Tijuana and family adventures along the Baja peninsula, family-owned The Taco Stand in La Jolla has been serving up burritos (breakfast and regular), quesadillas and, of course, tacos since 2013. Owner Julian Hakim is now looking forward to opening two additional locations in Encinitas and downtown.
“It’s definitely a nerve-wracking time when you’re expanding to new locations, but at the same time it’s tremendously exciting,” said Hakim. “I can’t wait for The Taco Stand to be a part of different communities in San Diego.” Hakim has created an authentic Tijuana taco stand, as he put it, “within a commercial space.” Customers can expect a true Mexican cocina experience as they enjoy California burritos or al pastor tacos (which are served with authentic rotisserie-marinated pork, cilantro, onions, cilantro sauce and pineapple-Hakim said if he had to pick a favorite menu item, these tacos “are amazing”).
The Taco Stand also serves sides such as chips and salsa or guacamole, carne asada fries, grilled corn on the cob. They have unique creamy cilantro and chipotle salsas in addition to traditional chili verde, habanero and pico de gallo. Homemade churros and paletas (Mexican popsicles) in unique flavors are tasty dessert options. Hakim said the churro recipe is from a long-time “churrero” in Tijuana. The fridge is kept stocked with Mexican Coke and imported cervezas.
“We use 100% Certified Angus Beef, we make all tortillas by hand in front of our guests and our salsas and guacamole are prepared fresh every day,” Hakim said. “[Our food] is the highest quality and [The Taco Stand is] the most authentic taqueria in La Jolla-or all of San Diego for that matter.”
The new downtown location of The Taco Stand is set to open on December 1. Encinitas can look forward to enjoying tacos, churros and more in January 2016.
“We work very hard to ensure that all of our customers have an enjoyable and memorable experience,” said Hakim. “The best part of my job is listening to our guests after they have tried the food. I have heard so many wonderful compliments that make my day great!”
