Back in November, we clued you in to our city’s newest foodie buzz: sbe Restaurant Group is bringing Katsuya to San Diego, taking over the former Quarter Kitchen space within the Andaz Hotel.
As we await the official grand opening event on Thursday, March 15th, sbe shares exclusive A-List news with us. San Diego Charger and Pro-Bowler Shaun Phillips has joined the sbe team as a partner for Katsuya San Diego, elevating this new hot spot to celebrity restaurateur status.
Katsuya is sbe’s first collaboration with Phillips, and to this San Diego sports icon, the relationship is both personal and professional. “Sam, Matt and the sbe team have created some of my favorite nightlife and dining experiences,” said Phillips. “I’ve been a regular at Katsuya for years and I wanted to be a part of bringing Katsuya to life in San Diego.”
Matt Erickson, Vice President Restaurant Operations, welcomes Phillips to the sbe team with warm regard: “When we look for partners, we look for smart, entrepreneurial minded people that get what we do. Shaun understands Katsuya, sbe and San Diego. We couldn’t imagine opening without him.”
Behind the Brand: Katsuya pairs the culinary talents of master sushi chef Katsuya Uechi and world-renowned designer Philippe Starck, and there is no stopping this ever-expanding power team. The new Katsuya will transform the Andaz Hotel’s 6,000-square-foot restaurant and lounge, serving traditional Japanese cuisine, innovative sushi rolls and unique Robata selections prepared over an open flame. In addition to festive fare, the Katsuya brand is known for its award-winning cocktail program. Read the full Katsuya review.
