OPEN: Flower Child
Officially open on Dec. 6, Flower Child will take over the former Sea & Smoke space in Del Mar, offering health-conscious dishes with a fast-casual vibe. In the Flower Hill Promenade, find a wide assortments of leafy greens, hummus and soups, plus flavorful bowls such as Thai cashew quinoa or the late riser with cage-free eggs, heirloom bean, quinoa, roasted chile, salsa, avocado and queso blanco. OPEN: Breakfast Republic - Encinitas
New Breakfast Republic locations continue to hatch left and right. The latest opening of the egg-focused chain is in Encinitas, complete with cheeky egg-shaped chairs and tables, rich dishes such as shrimp and grits and French toast flights, and a 700 square-foot patio. Breakfast Republic has two more locations on the way: East Village in February 2017 and Carmel Valley in April 2017.

OPEN: The Grass Skirt
The Grass Skirt is officially dishing out tiki-driven food and drink, thanks to the SDCM team and Executive Chef Brian Redzikowski. The cuisine ranges from Redzikowski’s beloved pork belly buns to Skuna Bay salmon cones, a Vietnamese noodle salad and prime hanger steak lettuce wraps. Whimsical cocktails from tiki-connoisseur Steven Tuttle are rum-filled, massive and might cause a thunder sound to go off in the bar when ordered. Good Time Poke, the joint daytime concept, is also open.

NEWS: Shake Shack UTC
It’s been confirmed. Shake Shack will be adding a San Diego location in the Westfield UTC mall next year. This major update comes as Shake Shack released their west coast expansion plan. The crave-worthy burgers are an east coast classic - often compared to our In-n-Out obsession - and will be joining the renovated Westfield UTC mall on the second level.

OPEN: Harvest by the Patio
The Patio Group recently opened an East Village post dubbed Harvest by the Patio. Executive Chef Amiko Gubbins is crafting salads, bowls and sandwiches with a healthy approach, like the fattoush salad made with chopped cucumber, tomato, red and yellow bell pepper, red cabbage, romaine, crispy naan and Sumac dressing. Entrees include shiso and pepper crusted albacore tuna, pan seared salmon and roasted lemon za’atar chicken.

(Almost) OPEN: Voltaire Beach House
Finishing out the final details of the space, Voltaire Beach House is slated to open at some point this month, mimicking the styles of a Nantucket beach house. The new restaurant is owned by David Schiffman, also known for his hand in Whiskey Girl and Florent Restaurant & Lounge. Menu details are still to be released.
