The Gaslamp's RA Sushi is revving up for a rockin' roll-eating contest on the eve of this year's NCAA championship hoops game.
"The Sushi Showdown is organized like the college basketball tournament, with eaters organized in a bracket system," says RA Sushi general manager Tim Brook.
On April 7 (3 to 6 p.m.), 24 competitors will try to gobble their way to the finals, where they'll shoot to shovel down the most uncut Tootsy Maki rolls (krab, shrimp and cucumber, rolled and topped with crunchy tempura bits) in hopes of winning free RA Sushi for a year.
"We'll have a live DJ and an emcee, and I know people will be cheering on their friends," Brook says. "It's possible there will be some professional food eaters on hand."
Pick up an application to compete at RA (deadline to enter is April 4), or spectate during the Sunday Happy Hour event while enjoying more reasonable portions, including food and drink specials ranging from $3 to $7.
