August is National Deli Month and D.Z. Akin’s is celebrating the great American heritage of New York-style delicatessens all month long, and all for a good cause.

Three years ago, a national documentary film, Deli Man, sounded the alarm on how delicatessens, a mainstay of every Jewish community, were rapidly disappearing.

Now deli mavens across the country have united to bring renewed attention to the unique and truly American businesses by creating a month entirely for delicatessens.

Opened in 1980 by Debi and Zvika Akin, the deli boasts more than 130 sandwich options and an entire page of fountain choices like sundaes, shakes, malts and sodas.

A portion of each meal sold will be donated to Jewish Family Services.
