Monello introduces a ‘fast and fine’ lunch service

Monello is giving people what they want. The Milanese-style Italian restaurant in Little Italy is known for its award-winning dinner experience, and now it will also provide people the chance to get a quick meal through its new lunchtime walk-up window service.

Do not fret, this will not turn Monello into Sbarro (not that anything is wrong with Sbarro, Michael Scott seems to enjoy the Italian chain), rather Monello will add a “fast and fine” element to its restaurant.

Guests can order one of the many options at the walk-up window, take a number and sit at a table in the patio or in the dining room. The food can reach the table in less than 10 minutes and the menu includes favorites such as crunchy street food (think panzerotti and arancini), stuffed roll bites, fried fish with Parmigiano French fries, hand cut pizzas and pasta served in cups. There also will be salads, gelato and a selection of cocktails, wines and beer.

Chef Fabrizio Cavallini cultivated the minimalistic mid-day menu for people to get quick bites without feeling like they are at a fast food restaurant or sacrificing Monello’s dining service.

“Our food is not changing; (it) is just served differently,” said Valentina Di Pietro, the co-owner of Monello and Bencotto.

The lunch service is available from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. After 3 p.m., Monello goes back to its aperitivo and dinner service.
