Monday munchies: Nutty breakfast in Solana Beach
Solana Beach is chill as can be, and so is Lockwood Table - a tucked away café with unique breakfast-y items, some of which are served all day. But no matter what time it is, do yourself a favor and indulge in their housemade walnut butter - a relatively healthful snack that you won’t hate yourself for eating, unlike most Monday Munchies finds.
This naturally bittersweet spread - creamy but with some nutty texture - is served with a side of grilled multigrain toast. Yeah, yeah, usually multigrain-anything is munchies repellant; however, a smear of the walnut butter, layer of fresh berries and honey drizzled on top proves otherwise. Wash it all down with a from-scratch soda made with fresh fruit juices, like pear or cucumber, and then you’ll be able to justify whatever unhealthy carnage you have planned for later. At least, that’s how I operate.
Lockwood Table stays pretty busy throughout the day, but remember, it’s only a short walk to the beach. Call ahead, grab some walnut butter toast to go, and enjoy your meal at the water’s edge.
