Mondays can be a real bummer. Dinner will depend on your emotional state, which, let's face it - is not always pretty.
Thankfully, pretty and tasty aren't interchangeable words, because our gut-busting trip to Funky Fries and Burgers was just what Monday called for: a loaded-spud bonanza complete with stained clothing and a free side of self-loathing.
I went for the most basic of Funky's offerings with the "baked potato" style tater tots, which translates to a large styrofoam carton brimming with super crunchy tots, heaps of bacon pieces, sour cream, cheddar cheese sauce, and green onion. Put an egg on it for protein's sake, or go for more hard-hitting, meaty items like Philly cheesesteak tots, or an all-beef dog with crispy bacon, smothered in mac n' cheese.
Take your food from Funky's over to the patio at TRES Taqueria Mariscos Cantina and wash it down with a beer, if that suits your fancy. These next-door neighbors have a friendly agreement worked out. Otherwise, it's soda pop and limited seating at this high-volume take-out joint. Some people prefer crying into their food in private; others let the euphoria from fake cheese wash over them right then and there, standing in the parking lot, somehow convinced that doing so will aid in the digestion process.
Funky Fries and Burgers is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday and closes at 9 p.m. on Sundays.
