Monday munchies: Breakfast for lunch, dinner
With pancakes served all day and a drive-through window, Panchita’s Kitchen & Bakery in North Park provides a beacon of hope for slackers who slept through breakfast and aren’t ready to put on real, non-pajama pants quite yet.
Dining inside the café is super chill, too, with reggae tunes playing overhead. They really know their crowd here.
For those with a perpetual case of the munchies, you can pretty much afford to eat here every day of the week, alternating between desserts, tacos, fruit salads, TJ-style hot dogs, elote, wood fire grilled items and breakfast burritos. What else is there? Hours are from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. daily.
Why more Mexican joints don’t capitalize on the easy to make, simply delicious mollete is beyond me. These bean-slathered, toasted bolillo halves come topped with all kinds of items; we went for the loaded version that comes with bacon and melted cheese over medium fried eggs ($5.25) and bread baked fresh at Panchita’s daily.
Wash it all down with a horchata; the rich, creamy rice drink spiced with cinnamon is especially solid here. 3803 32nd St., North Park.
