Kitchen 4140 hosts Harvest of Fall charity dinner
All things autumn are officially here, including the yummy pumpkin-infused fall foods that we love so much. What better way to ring in the season than by getting your grub on at the Harvest of Fall Charity Dinner on Oct. 19 at Kitchen 4140? Eight skilled chefs from the San Diego area will be coming together to cook up a farm-to-table style fall-inspired meal.
The eight-course meal will be paired with California wines, all of which come from sustainable, family-operated wineries. The event starts at 7 p.m. in the communal area, but guests are encouraged to come by an hour early and indulge in appetizers and drinks in the restaurant’s rustic-style private wine room.
Harvest of Fall benefits Toussaint Academy, a youth home in San Diego that helps imperiled teens from ages 14-19. All of the proceeds from the event will be donated to Toussaint. While you celebrate fall with a marvelous meal, you’ll see some of the teens you’re benefiting greeting and helping seat guests.
Chef Kurt Metzger, who is the chef and owner of Kitchen 4140, is passionate about this event because of both his personal connection towards Toussaint Academy and because of what it has done for young teens.
“It’s very fulfilling to be able to do what I love, being a chef, and simultaneously work with the Toussaint Academy. This cause is near to my heart; many people don’t know that I spent a time in a youth home, and that part of the reason I became who I am today is because I had great mentors who showed me the way when no one else would,” Metzger said.
In 2015, he created a mentorship program for Toussaint Academy that gives two teens per each 12-week session the opportunity to take an internship at Kitchen 4140. The very first intern he had was hired on as an employee after completing his session.
“The internship program and the dinner series we put on at Kitchen 4140 is my way of paying it forward, and I know that all of the talented chefs involved in our Harvest of Fall dinner are just as excited to be involved in this event."Tickets are $125 per person.
