Life can be pretty fast sometimes, and when it is, it’s helpful to have our food come the same way. Fortunately, you don’t have to stand in line to order a greasy meal that won’t actually fuel you with energy to get through your day. A few healthy, fast-food spots around San Diego make it a little easier to get in and out without, well, In-N-Out (no offense to those who live for the burger joint’s animal-style fries).
Here are a few of our favorite grab-and-go, healthy fast-food joints:
Evolution Fast Food
One of the first fast-food options of its kind in San Diego, Evolution provides a vegetarian- and vegan-based menu that helps fix your burger cravings, without the guilt. Enjoy a menu filled with healthier fast-food items such as “chicken” wings, a portabella mushroom sandwich and a “bacon” cheeseburger, made with your choice of organic, house-made tempeh patty, an organic house-made black bean patty or a garden patty. They also offer a variety of wraps, raw tacos, healthy shakes and smoothies and dessert items. You can order your items online for an even quicker pickup.

Plant Power Fast Food
This newly opened Ocean Beach fast-food joint has been quite popular since its debut, offering fast, convenient healthy goods to those who flock to the laid-back beach community. They serve up salads, wraps, burgers and shakes - all made with vegan ingredients. Plant Power also boasts a full breakfast menu daily, with choices such as “chicken” and waffle sandwiches, a breakfast burrito made with a tofu “egg” scramble, hash browns and a yogurt parfait. If you’re looking for true fast food, just pull up outside, order from your car at the kiosk and a Plant Power employee will bring your food out to your car.

This little shop was once a delivery-only service, but it has since expanded into a one-stop shop, ideal for picking up quality meals on the go. This one differs a bit from classic fast food, because the meals are not meant to mimic the burger-and-fries menu. However, FITzee offers tons of healthy, pre-made plates with paleo and vegetarian options, all-natural meat, local ingredients and portion-controlled meals. If you’re in a pinch for time during lunch, don’t have the energy to make a healthy dinner or just want to load up on some pre-made dishes for your fridge, FITzee is a great option to keep in mind.
