Brew & Food Festival debuts this weekend

When craft beer and culinary genius collide, the result is the Brew & Food Festival, being held Saturday at the Waterfront Park on the San Diego coast.

Managed and produced by the festival innovators at Motley Brews on behalf of San Diego Coastkeeper, the inaugural festival will feature more than 70 independent breweries and more than 20 of the region's finest culinary tastemakers preparing gastro pub-style dishes.

In the Mad Craft VIP section of Brew and Food Festival, chef Javier Plascencia will offer his take on Baja Mediterranean cuisine with his carrot agua chile and summer vegetable tostada.

Chef David Warner of Bottega Americano will prepare pork sugo, and tomato and melon gazpacho.

Roasted lamb chop, and eggplant and ricotta agnolotti will be featured at chef Geno Bernardo's table; and visitors who stop by chef Michael Minor's table will feast on short rib taco and Mexican corn cone.

And in the festival's general tasting area, culinary powerhouses such as Bier Garden, Common Theory Public House, The Regal Seagull and Embargo Grill will be serving up palate-tantalizing dishes in the Gastropub Grottos section of the festival.

Among the craft breweries participating in the event are Stone Brewing Co., Great Divide Brewing Co., Monkey Paw Brewing Co., Knee Deep Brewing Co. and Uinta Brewing Co. A complete listing of participating breweries and special pours is available on the Brew and Food Fest website.

Live music will be featured on the main stage, and includes performances from Down North, The Routine and Jonny Tarr. Additionally, festivalgoers can get their groove on in the Silent Disco Dome, which will feature DJs Frankie M and Joey Jimenez spinning simultaneously.

Proceeds benefit San Diego Coastkeeper in its missions to protect and restore fishable, swimable and drinkable waters in San Diego County.

Beer Tasting (GA), Early Entry and Mad Craft VIP tickets are available online, with pricing based on which events guests plan to attend. Beer Tasting (GA) will be held from 3-6:30 p.m., and tickets are $45 purchased in advance or $50 at the door. This ticket entitles guests to unlimited samples from a selection of more than 150 craft beers, an afternoon of live music and delicious food available for purchase.

Early Entry tickets, which grant entry to guests starting at 2 p.m., are available for $55 in advance or $60 at the door. Early Entry ticket holders can be among the first to sample all the brews available, including new and specialty beers.

Mad Craft VIP tickets also are available for $105 in advance or $110 at the door, and entitle guests to samples of limited-release and unique brews and innovative beer cocktails available only in the Mad Craft VIP area. Beer-inspired dishes crafted by celebrity chefs also will be included in this area at no additional cost.
