Savor local flavors, products at inaugural hog roast
Holy hog roast! Come hungry and ready to grub on some freshly roasted hog and hors d’oeuvres at a meat-lovers’ event on Saturday, Jan. 14. The inaugural roast will be hosted by fast-casual Italian restaurant Biga; owner Trish Watlington of farm-to-table restaurant The Red Door; and Edwin Real, founder of the Facebook group Eating and Drinking in San Diego.
The event will take over Biga’s downtown space from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m., featuring four chefs cooking up some extremely tasty dishes. The featured chefs are Tae Dickey from Biga, Willy Eick from restaurant 608, Evan Cruz from Arterra in the San Diego Marriott Del Mar, and Drew Bent from the soon-to-open Lola 55. Munch on dishes of all kinds, including charcuterie and Biga’s wood-fired heritage bread.
Make sure to save room after tasting some dishes for the full hog roast. Yep, Heart & Trotter is providing a full hog that will roast in Biga’s wood-burning ovens for your enjoyment. Heart & Trotter also will host a butchering demo at the event for those who would like to learn more about the process.
Local beer will be provided by Poor House Brewing Company and Abnormal Beer Company. Regal Wine Company will provide a wine tasting for those who prefer the vino.
Tickets are $30 per person until Jan. 13 or $35 at the door. Each ticket includes food and one drink. Additional beer and wine will be $3-$4 per glass. Tickets can be purchased at brownpapertickets.com
