Treasure Chest Fest at Green Flash is back!
When beer benefits others, it calls for a big celebration.
Since 2011, Green Flash Brewing Co. has been throwing the Treasure Chest Fest to raise funds for Susan G. Komen San Diego. It’s a cause near and dear to Green Flash co-founder and breast cancer survivor Lisa Hinkley’s heart. The program has raised over $220,000 for Prevent Cancer at the national level as well as regionally for Susan G. Komen San Diego and Susan G. Komen Tidewater.
This year, the event takes place on Saturday, Aug. 27 from noon to 5 p.m.
At the fest, guests can sample a lineup of rare, specialty, cask and barrel-aged beers throughout the brewery, tasting room and beer garden. Some of the most sought-after Green Flash brews will be poured and the Treasure Chest 2016 beer will be released, an IPA with grapefruit and prickly pear juice with hibiscus flowers.
Aside from the rare casks featured all day, guests can chow down on bites from local restaurants such as Bottega Americano, Carnitas Snack Shack, Nomad Donuts, Tasting Room Del Mar and the Green Flash Gastro Truck all while getting a behind-the-scenes look at the Green Flash brewery.
A Hawaiian luau theme will dominate the party, so dress in your Hawaiian shirts and grass skirts to celebrate. A few local businesses will host educational demos throughout the day (with beer paired, of course), such as oyster shucking with Ironside Oyster Bar and butchering 101 with The Heart & Trotter.
Brewmaster Erik Jensen and the crew will be on site to chat about the beers poured at each station and the pairings developed for the occasion.
A $50 ticket includes 10 beer and food pairing tasters, commemorative glass and access to the marketplace, demos and more. Designated driver tickets are also available for $20.
100% of the proceeds help women affected by breast cancer in San Diego.
Green Flash Brewing Co., 6550 Mira Mesa Blvd., San Diego. Tickets can be purchased at greenflashbrew.com.
