San Diego wins big at Great American Beer Fest

Beer-lovers eagerly watched the awards ceremony of the 2016 Great American Beer Festival over the weekend, which seemed to prove what we already knew - San Diego breweries know a thing or two about great beer.

We want to send a congratulations to our hometown beer-heroes who walked away with some hardware at this year’s competition. The winners are listed in order of beer name, style category and brewery.

Gold medalists:

Queen of Tarts, American-Style Sour Ale - Karl Strauss Brewing Co.

Windansea Wheat, South German-Style Hefeweizen - Karl Strauss Brewing Co.

Old Numbskull, Barley Wine-Style Ale  - AleSmith Brewing Co.


Tabula Rasa Toasted Porter, Robust Porter - Second Chance Beer Co.

Brown, American-Style Brown Ale - Culture Brewing Co., Solana Beach

Ole Prospector Red Ale, American-Style Amber Red/Ale - BNS Brewing & Distilling Co.

Silver medalists:

The Contender IPA with Fresh Chilis, Chili Beer -  Duck Foot Brewing Co.


Gatling Gun Imperial Stout - BNS Brewing & Distilling Co.

Bronze medalists:
