Kid-inspired creations featured as ice cream flavors of the month
Remember when you were a kid and you couldn’t decide what topping to put on your ice cream, so you added all of them? Kids palates are very different from adults, but sometimes the seemingly bizarre flavor combinations can be the most delicious.
That’s exactly what Salt & Straw co-founder and head ice cream maker Tyler Malek had in mind when he started working with students from local elementary schools to come up with five limited-edition flavors.
The annual student inventor series will be featured at the Little Italy scoop shop through the month of April. The five offererings include:
The Cookie Monster
Blue-hued vanilla ice cream featuring black fudge and Oreo cookies.
Maple Peanut Butter Brioche French Toast
A swirl of maple peanut butter ice cream with cinnamon French toast.
Mango Chamoy Sorbet
A spicy-sweet treat of mango sorbet and a house-made chamoy sauce featuring fresh mango, chili powder and lemon juice.
Lots a’ Nacho
A savory-sweet combination of cheddar cheese ice cream with tomato jam, candied tortilla chips and avocado fudge.
Coke Float Caramel Volcano
An explosion of flavor featuring vanilla-cola ice cream and caramel.
