The time has come again for some fun in sun while tasting delicious chili creations during the 38th annual Ocean Beach Street Fair & Chili Cook-Off Festival, returning from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 24.

The cook-off portion of the epic, chili-centric event will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the foot of Ocean Beach pier. Come hungry, and get ready to sample chili from both San Diego restaurants and amateur chili chefs from across San Diego. Tickets for tasting can be purchased the day of for $2 per chili entry. Attendees can also purchase a $20 master ticket that allows a taste of all the participating competitors, and a chance to vote for the best. The award ceremony will take place on the Main Stage at the Ocean Beach pier parking lot between 2:30-3:30 p.m.

Beyond the chili, there is plenty to do around the lively Ocean Beach festival, including the painting of a large community mural. The mural offers “squares” so that each person can create their own piece in the painting. Each square can be purchased for $15 at 10 a.m. at Bacon Street, just south of Newport Avenue. There will also be a huge artists’ alley for perusing handmade local jewelry, ceramics, paintings and more.

After tasting some chili and getting artsy, head over to the beach-side beer garden to grab some local craft brews. The beer garden will be pouring tasty brews all day.

Live and local music will also be in play throughout the fest at five stages across Ocean Beach. This year, tunes will be provided by Electric Waste Band, Pysdecar, The Verigolds, The Moves Collective, Jeff Berkley, The Routine, Cardinal Moon, Lead Pony, Dave Gilbert Band, Cairo Beats and several others.

Entry to the event is free. For more information, including participating bands, chili cook-off information, and parking tips, visit oceanbeachsandiego.com.
