A weekly feature highlighting tasty vegetarian-friendly dishes from restaurants across San Diego County.
TODAY’S RECOMMENDATION
What is it? Grilled portobello mushroom salad
Where’s it from? The Prado at Balboa Park
What’s in it? Baby arugula and spinach, portobello mushrooms, sun-dried tomato pesto and Sonoma goat cheese, all topped with a lemon vinaigrette
How much will it cost me? $10.95
Why we love it: There’s something about mushrooms, sun-dried tomatoes and a tasty cheese that just jibe so well. Add some fresh greens, such as arugula, to the mix and you’ve got yourself a salad to write home about. This dish offers thick cuts of grilled portobello mushroom that are full of flavor on their own, but they are amped up by the fresh goat-cheese crumbles and dippable sun-dried tomato pesto sauce surrounding the plate. It even tastes a little bit like a mushroom pizza, if we’re honest, so that in itself should be reason enough to go meat-free with this delicious dish. Pro tip: Dine out on the terrace and take in views of the outdoor art sculptures in Balboa Park.
