Summer is coming up quickly here in San Diego, and as a generally active community, we are keen on keeping our figures in check while still indulging in the occasional, delicious dessert. Lucky for us, beyond baking our own treats at home, there are plenty of healthier options around town that will leave your sweet tooth satisfied and your waistline slim.
Here are some of our favorite healthier dishes to enjoy when the sugar cravings are real.
This staple on the True Foods menu has us coming back time and time again. This squash pie is made with a graham crust and coconut whipped cream and get this - it's vegan and gluten-free. We promise the taste does not show it, though. The flavor is very similar to pumpkin pie and is a go-to when craving something sweet.
Chocolate coconut acai bowl
Acai bowls are like a little slice of sweet fruit heaven without leaving you feeling guilty. While we have a plethora of different choices here in San Diego, one of our favorites is the Chocolate Coconut bowl, blended with acai, banana, chocolate protein, coconut milk and topped with granola, banana, strawberry, cacoa nibs and coconut shreds.

"I Am Adoring" signature tiramisu
Craving a coffee flavored treat? Head to the well-known health hub that is Cafe Gratitude for a taste of "I Am Adoring," a raw take on tiramisu. It is chocolaty and coffee flavored as traditional tiramisu, but is raw, vegan and pairs great with a warm latte.

Don't let the word vegan fool you, folks. Yep, these cinnamon rolls are legit, vegan and come in a variety of flavors. Spring frosting flavors include macadamia nut, hazelnut, mashmallow, orange, chai and cake batter. You also can top the frosting with fresh fruit, coconut, cookie dough, walnuts, pie crumble and chocolate sauce, to list just a few of the choices.
