To-go: Moonlight Beach Deli and Dogs. It’s a little random but it’s easy to grab shockingly good deli sandwiches (skip breakfast options) to take to the beach inside the definitely no-frills Encinitas Chevron convenience store. Try the Cuban (ham, Cuban sauce, Swiss cheese and pickles on grilled focaccia) or the Cali Cuban which adds pulled pork to the mix. 350 Encinitas Blvd., Encinitas. Casual: Lumberyard Tavern. Go to the Lumberyard for comfort food like pulled pork mac and cheese, meatloaf, fish and chips and even “Cardiff Crack” tri tip. In true saloon spirit, they stock plenty of whiskeys and bourbons in addition to craft beer. 967 S. Coast Highway 101 #101, Encinitas. lumberyard101.com (Cam Buker)
