Undistributed beer of the week: Suavecito

Share

There can only be one undistributed beer of the week. The competition is fierce in San Diego’s beer community, but someone has to take the title. This week’s best undistributed beer is...

Pizza Port Ocean Beach : Suavecito

Style: Coffee milk stout (on nitro)

ABV: 8%

Pair with: pumpkin pancakes or vanilla ice cream

This medium-bodied, dark brew is full of roasted, malty flavors. It has an uber-creamy mouth-feel, thanks to the layers of nitro. The lactose-factor is sweet but not overwhelming for a milk stout, allowing notes of caramel and chocolate to come forward.

Sauvecito was brewed by Ignacio “Nacho” Cervantes at Pizza Port Ocean Beach. This brew is a collaboration between Libra Coffee, located in Oceanside, and Pizza Port OB. Nacho chose to work with Libra Coffee after meeting and appreciating the work of its owner, Eric Medina, who focuses on finding unique beans from all around the world. Nacho chose to use the Huila Colombia and Yirgacheffe Ethiopia blends from Kenya to add notes of sweetness, acidity and citrus to this batch of Sauvecito. He first began brewing this stand-out beer four years ago at Pizza Port Carlsbad and has brewed it once a year since. Nacho enjoys crafting this specialty beer sparingly because it’s somewhat fragile to brew, but also because he likes to keep beer-drinkers looking forward to this once-a-year, “smooth and nice” (AKA Suavecito) creation. This beer is currently available on tap for a limited time at Pizza Port Ocean Beach.
