Local Beer Marches On: San Diego breweries announce expansion

Share

Even as Green Flash retreats and regroups, two San Diego breweries are going in the opposite direction, announcing major expansions.

Santa Barbara is the latest link in Modern Times’ chain of West Coast outposts, as a 5,000-square-foot tasting room and restaurant are planned for South State Street in that city’s downtown.

The precise address and opening day have not been revealed, but the announcement — delivered in the breathless, hyper-amped tones perfected by this brewery — named the new spot: the Modern Times Academy of Recreational Science.

Duck Foot, which opened in Miramar in 2015, is building a 1,500-square-foot tasting room and restaurant in San Diego’s East Village. The 16 taps will include some limited releases, while the kitchen — helmed by Logan Kendall, formerly with Acre, a James Beard-nominated restaurant in Auburn, Ala. — will focus on gluten-free dishes.

No opening date, but here’s the address: 550 Park Blvd., Suite 2104, downtown San Diego.
