THE CAKE IS A LIE

No dessert-friendly tour of San Diego’s beerscape would be complete without this coffee-infused cream ale from Intergalactic Brewing in Beeramar (ale aficionados’ affectionate name for the amorphous Miramar area). A warp-speed runaway hit for this sci-fi-themed interest, it is a rare light-colored and easy-drinking coffee-beer offering a creamy mouthfeel and subtle sweetness complemented by flavors akin to a cup of Joe. Consider it a new and different take on “cold brew.”

2 A.M. BIKE RIDE

With a tip of the hat to the bike-ability of Fall Brewing’s North Park environs, this is one of the lowest-alcohol, java-infused beers in San Diego - or anywhere, for that matter - making it the perfect libationary last-call option before mounting one’s 10-speed and heading home. Its big roasted-coffee-bean character belies its low-octane nature, making it a great go-with for the confectionery wonders of nearly next-door Nomad Donuts.
