Coming to a Head
URGE NORTH CITY
The brotherhood behind North County’s Urge Gastropub empire will grow its family of beer-forward restaurants early next year, bowling into San Marcos’ upcoming North City development with a 21,000-square-foot brewpub. Located across from CSU San Marcos, the venue will feature the second brewery for in-house brew-biz Mason Ale Works, a trio of bars, craft cocktails, an eight-lane bowling alley, plus an outdoor patio featuring a crushed-oyster-shell bocce ball court and adult-sized kids’ games.

BURGEON BEER COMPANY
A trio of beer buds are combining their eltiple expertise, graduating from a garage to a pro-skills brewery in inland Carlsbad. Heading up brewing operations will be Anthony Tallman, who cut his teeth at Stone before taking charge of fermentation at Vista’s Back Street Brewery. At his new digs, which are scheduled to open before year’s end, he’ll explore a wide variety of styles ranging from IPAs, U.K.-inspired beers, and hoppy ales and lagers to barrel-aged brews and lesser-seen Belgian rarities.
