Beer of the week: Pizza Port’s Bacon & Eggs
Editor’s note: This is part of a weekly series spotlighting great beers (and there are many) new and old from brewers located within San Diego County.

Brewery: Pizza Port
Style: Imperial Coffee Porter
ABV: 8%
Here in San Diego, we give mad respect to our brewing veterans who kicked off craft beer for the masses. Standing amongst those giants is the ever-popular Pizza Port and its seasonal classic, Bacon & Eggs Imperial Coffee Porter.
First produced by Pizza Port OB and brewer Yiga Miyashiro in 2010, this award-winning beer is crafted with a special blend of Ethiopian and Sumatran beans from Bird Rock Coffee Roasters of La Jolla. With medals from the World Beer Cup and the Great American Beer Festival, Bacon & Eggs remains a flavorful testimony to the quality of San Diego craft and independent beer.
What’s with the name? This seasonal brew, while not made with actual bacon and eggs, is a tribute to breakfast and brunch, two things San Diegans line up for.
What to expect: A dark brown-black pour with aromas of coffee, dark chocolate, smoky spice, and roasted malts and a coffee-like bitterness on the finish.
Best fan comment: “Solid Imperial Porter that I would have every day for breakfast if I could.” — Hopmaestro on Ratebeer.com
This beer gal’s take: Like a carbonated cup of coffee, this beer screams weekend brunch on chilly days. Pull out a blanket, flip a few flapjacks, and settle in for a Saturday or Sunday brunch under the covers.
When can I get it? Available January through March on tap and in cans.
