Take it from the tap: Anonymous no more
Go: Bar Sin Nombre
Know: Owner Tony Raso bleeds beer. After guiding the craft beer program at his family’s La Bella Pizza Garden, a Chula Vista landmark, Raso distributed top-end brews in Hawaii, then returned to San Diego to work at North Park’s Fall Brewing Company. He was also voted as one of San Diego’s favorite beertenders at the start of 2018 by Facebook group Eating and Drinking in San Diego.
Crow: Dazzle your droogs by introducing them to seven-month-old Bar Sin Nombre — there’s no sign out front, but it anchors Third Avenue’s beer block of two breweries (3 Punk Ales Brewing Co. and Chula Vista Brewery) and tasting room from a third (Groundswell Brew Tasting Room).
Pro: Several IPAs are always on tap, but the emphasis is on everything else: German pilsners, Belgian lambics, one-offs from cult breweries like Jester King Brewery, Oxbow Brewing Company and Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales.
Whoa!: Not into craft beer? Opt for a glass of wine or a pint of Hamm’s, your granddad’s beer of yesteryear. Sin Nombre’s “Hammchelada” mixes that lager with Clamato and lime juice, then adorns the concoction with Tajín and Chamoy.
