Teaming up for the perfect holiday cocktail

Sometimes marriages are made in heaven. One such happy union is Barçon, the new cocktail-catering collaboration between Normal Heights hotspot Sycamore Den and catering superstars A MIHO Experience (formerly MIHO Gastrotruck).

Combining the wizardry of the Den’s talented mixologists with the mouthwatering bites of MIHO (think shrimp and grits porchetta, and chicken and waffles), Barçon hits all the gastronomic buttons.

So what prodigy have they born for our seasonal delight? THE perfect cocktail for our holiday tables and parties, The Uncle Buck. We all have that crazy, drunken uncle who makes our holidays a little more exciting, yes? Now you have a cocktail to honor him, just replace Buck with your own family member’s name to make your party more personal.

Keeping the ingredients close to home, Barçon uses vodka from Loft & Bear, that award-winning Los Angeles distillery that uses soft winter wheat and 100 percent California spring water. They implement another Los Angeles outfit, the popular health bar Juice Served Here, which uses raw, locally sourced ingredients (organic when possible), with a variety of cleansing programs and clever juice blend names like Block Rockin’ Beets, Field of Greens, and Pipe Cleaner.

The Uncle Buck

1.5 ounces Loft & Bear Vodka

3 ounces Juice Served Here Pipe Cleaner (blend of apple, ginger and lemon)

3 cinnamon sticks

Splash of ginger beer (my favorite is Bundaberg or Fever Tree)

Garnish with slice of lemon or cinnamon stick (or both!)

Step 1: Make a cinnamon simple syrup, by boiling 1 cup of water, 1 cup of sugar and 3 cinnamon sticks. Strain and let cool down.

Step 2: Grab a copper tumbler or mug or an appropriately festive glass and fill with ice. Pour in the vodka, Pipe Cleaner juice, 1 tablespoon of cinnamon simple syrup, and top with ginger beer. Give it a stir, drop a cinnamon stick or place a lemon slice and you’re set. Now go find the mistletoe!
