Rum makes the perfect Valentine’s Day gift

Valentine’s Day is rapidly approaching and you’re probably contemplating the perfect gift or experience to share with that special someone. The three friends who founded Malahat Spirits have a couple of ideas for you.

“Who wouldn’t want a bottle of handcrafted rum for Valentine’s Day?” laughs Tony Grillo, one of the partners at Malahat Spirits. “Who wouldn’t want a bottle of handcrafted rum any day!” adds Ken Lee, another of the Malahat trio.

“We founded the distillery to make the finest handcrafted spirits for ourselves, our friends and our families. To make our rum, we ferment the molasses, distill and bottle it all with love right here in our facility,” said Tom Bleakley, Malahat’s third partner.

“We currently have white, spiced and ginger rums available. We also have rum and bourbon aging in barrels to release in the future,” said Tony.

“If you’re not sure which rum you or your sweetheart will like best, you should come in for a tasting and try them all,” suggests Ken. “A rum tasting would be a great way to start off your Valentine’s evening.”

The rums are delicious. Malahat Spirits Spiced Rum won a Gold Medal at the 2014 San Francisco International Spirits Competition. Malahat Spirits Ginger Rum is unique with a wonderful balance of the sweetness and spice of the all natural hand-peeled ginger they use. Their White Rum is the perfect base for your favorite rum cocktail.

The Malahat Spirits tasting room is open to guests between noon and 6:30 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays, or 2-5:30 p.m. on Saturdays and try their rum, you’ll be glad you did. The tasting includes six samples and a take-home glass. The tasting room is also a great place to start a date, especially on one of the most romantic nights of the year.
