Spirits to comfort you on rainy days
Southern Californians by nature are not pluviophiles (lovers of rain or those who find joy on rainy days). Americans run from far and wide to bask in the glorious rays of sun that clock in 266 days per calendar year. So for those cloudy, stormy, rain-filled days San Diegans need a little liquid comfort to ease their abbreviated Seasonal Affective Disorder.
Here are some go-to rainy day drinks complete with musical pairings to soothe your grey-hued blues.
Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc
This famous white wine is also perfectly suited for moody, grey days. If you want to expand your palate, try their Te Koko, a wild fermentation sauvignon blanc aged in old French Oak barrels.
Soundtrack: “Cloudy Days” by Alison Krauss: “Cloudy days don’t the sun ever shine anymore? Stormy weather will you always be around?”

Cloudline Pinot Noir
Grab this red when you see that dark grey cloud line over the ocean.

Cloud Break Chardonnay
This full bodied buttery chard is for those diehard Cali fans. Think toasted oak, coconut, vanilla, pear, and apple. Here’s to the clouds breaking.

Rain Vodka
Mix this organic and gluten-free vodka into refreshing cocktails (think Moscow Mule) on your rainy day. Or put a little Chambord (a black raspberry liqueur that will turn your drink purple) in your drink and make it muse over a past love from the 1980’s.

Drowned God cocktail, Kindred
Perhaps an homage to Lono, the Tiki god associated with rain, the cocktail lightens up any dark day with aged rum, pineapple, coconut, lime, and angostura bitters. Don’t miss snapping a photo of this Instagram-worthy drink.
