Polite Provisions staff creates a new cocktail menu
With its retro apothecary approach, proclaiming itself “manufacturers of local tonics, elixirs and cures,” Polite Provisions indeed transports guests to a different time and place.
To celebrate its fifth year in business, the bar will roll out a new menu on June 26. The menu is stacked with a lineup of 41 cocktails, from staff picks to forever favorites and communal drinks.
What are some stand outs? For one, tea-time is possible at Polite Provisions with Temptest in a Teapot, a mixture of gin, aquavit, lime, green tea, honey and Chareau Aloe liqueur.
Forever favorites, which helped launch the bar into a local hotspot, include Purple Haze, a tropical gin elixir with lychee, hibiscus, pineapple, citrus aromas and notes of white peppercorn; Fortunate Sun, a tequila and mezcal cure with grape and lemon flavors; and Zombie the rum mixture that’s “tart, sweet and easy, then comes back and eats your face.”
A new concept introduced to the menu is “from your local neighborhood pushers.” A collection of 10 cocktails, created by the Polite Provisions staff, are placed in the middle of the menu along with illustrations of each bartender.
Be sure to read the descriptions under the cocktails, as Polite Provisions likes to throw out some wit and the occasional swear. The bar is known for its unique menu designs, previously releasing a menu in the form of a coloring book.
If the new menu isn’t convincing enough to come make a trip, perhaps the $6 drinks during happy hour (3-6 p.m. Monday through Thursday) might.
