Watch as Lucien Conner makes this refreshing traditional margarita.
Did you grow up in San Diego?
I grew up in Houston, Texas. I have been in San Diego for about eight years now.
How did you get into bartending?
I have had a passion for restaurants and bars for as far back as I can remember. I really dove into cocktails when Ian Ward and I started San Diego’s first cocktail/bar consulting company about seven years ago.
How long have you been working at Puesto?
What kind of experience can someone get at Puesto?
Puesto is amazing! Puesto offers a lively and beautiful space to try some authentic Mexico City-style street food taken to the next level with great ingredients and service.
When you’re not mixing drinks, what are you doing on your spare time?
Traveling Mexico as often as possible.
Puesto Perfect Margarita
- 2 oz. tequila reposado
- 1 oz. fresh lime juice
- 1 oz. agave nectar
Strain into a chilled salt rimmed double old-fashioned glass over fresh ice. Garnish with a lime.
What makes the perfect margarita?
Balance and simplicity; good ingredients that highlight and support the tequila.
Any specific reason for choosing reposado tequila?
A reposado makes a slightly rounder, more full-bodied margarita while still showing a lot of agave character.
I’ve noticed you use fresh limes. How did the idea of having your own lime trees come about?
We have lime trees that we love to use to supplement the limes we bring in. It’s a great way to highlight our commitment to quality ingredients.
What reactions do you get from customers when they try this cocktail for the first time?
Guests love our margarita. Many of them have never had a margarita made this simply and this well. It’s such a far cry from the sweet and sour concoctions that plague the world.
What are some good dishes to pair this drink with?
Our margarita is perfect with rich carnitas tacos.
How much does this drink cost?
You can have a margarita with any of our agave spirits for $3 in addition to the price of the spirit.
