We San Diegans love to head up to the gorgeous shores of La Jolla. Watch the seals lounging lazily on the rocks, splash and snorkel amongst the fish, and frolic with SoCal abandon on the grass at the cove.
After all of that hard work, a local needs to be rewarded with a good cocktail and a view. In town, there is no better place than Hiatus Lounge, atop Hotel La Jolla.
Starting July 25, the poolside lounge will be hosting a series of fests titled Distilled: A Spirited Summer. Including a Gin Fest, Liqueur Fest, and a Whiskey Fest, budding mixologists, cocktail lovers, and fans of spirits will enjoy these mini festivals at the pool.
Kicking off the summer, Gin Fest (July 25) will include small-batch producers Half Moon, Martin Miller’s, Boodles, and San Diego’s own Old Harbor. Enjoy classic cocktails made from the versatile spirit, including the famous French 75 and gimlet.
Liqueur Fest, on Aug. 22, will include mixology’s hottest cocktail components, amaros, vermouths and cordials, with popular names Fernet-Branca, Ancho Reyes, and Solerno Blood Orange Liqueur. Stretch your taste buds by sampling these out straight, and then how they intermingle seamlessly into a cocktail.
Rounding out the La Jolla season is Whiskey Fest on Sept. 26 (sure to be a favorite for whiskey-loving San Diegans). Sample your way through small-batch selections and cocktail classics, like the mint julep and Manhattan, and learn about the different types and productions of the world’s most beloved brown spirit.
A variety of cocktails are sure to be on hand, and for an additional fee, you can also enjoy Hiatus classics, like the Ron Burgundy cocktail, made with Cocchi Americano, Famous Grouse scotch, maple syrup, lemon, and bitters. Cannonball!
Each festival takes place on a Saturday from 2-5 p.m., and costs $10, which includes a ticket for all sampling and live entertainment. Small bites will be available from the kitchen at Cusp, the hotel’s top-notch restaurant that also has stunning views of the coast. (Insider tip: Be sure to check out happy hour and sunsets here.) Purchase all three fests via Brown Paper Tickets: Gin Fest tickets at GinFest.bpt.me, Liqueur Fest tickets at LiqueurFest.bpt.me, and Whiskey Fest tickets at WhiskeyFest.bpt.me
Hiatus Lounge is at Hotel La Jolla, 7955 La Jolla Shores Drive. (858) 551-3620.
