If you haven’t had the chance to visit The Lot in La Jolla yet, you’re in for a seaside treat. This luxury movie theater is the talk of the town and for good reason. It’s the newest one-stop shop for all things La Jolla: Art, music, food and culture.
Let’s start with the venue. It’s important to understand that this place is not just your standard, better-than-average movie cinema, which we are all familiar with at this point. It pushes the envelope a bit further than that. It’s basically an all-in-one, up-scale, La Jolla-esque experience wrapped into a nice little spot by the beach. It features several theatres to view the latest movies in, but also has a large outdoor patio for having appetizers, craft cocktails, coffee or full-on dinner dates.
That brings us to the food and drinks.
The Lot features an extensive wine list, local craft beers on draft, top-shelf liquors and a widespread, specialty cocktail menu for enjoying before, during or after your showing.
Their dinner options provide just as much variety for guests. Appetizers like the Yellow Fin tuna tartar and cheese and charcuterie board are perfect for sharing with friends. They also offer multiple flatbreads and larger plates, like the filet mignon or the slow-roasted salmon, with shellfish dumplings, baby vegetables and bouillabaisse consommé.
If you’re in the area earlier in the day, check out their café with all organic coffee and pastries that opens at 9 a.m. daily, or stop by for lunch. Lunch options consist of San Diego-inspired dishes cooked up by local chef, Matt Sramek. Order some beer-battered fish tacos, a roasted mushroom flatbread, or the La Jolla Cobb salad.
Lastly, one of the most interesting parts of The Lot is the movie selection. While you can definitely catch a popular new release here, they also give movie-goers the chance to take a break from the same circulating flicks by showing independent, indie films for only $12 per ticket.
The overall goal is to provide the surrounding public with a place to enjoy that mirrors the unique gem of a city that is La Jolla.
