Let The Games Begin

Press Release
San Diego-based Cohn Restaurant Group brings the region’s first self-serve beer and video game “barcade” to the downtown La Mesa neighborhood with the launch of Coin Haus - an adult-only arcade-meets-tap room offering guests an inspired combination of nostalgic video games alongside a self-serve draught system.

Anchoring the corner of La Mesa’s Antique Row, directly adjacent to CRG’s BO-beau kitchen + garden, Coin Haus’ 2,400 square foot venue is a haven for the young-at-heart. The barcade offers more than 30 video game classics such as Super Mario Brothers, Donkey Kong and Frogger, as well as new releases like Game of Thrones and Ghostbusters pinball, all accessible using the same wristband key fob that allows guests to enjoy beer, wine, as well as Boochcraft Kombucha and Cold Brew Coffee pouring from the 50 self-serve taps.

Coin Haus’ one-of-a-kind industrial-style barcade is a social sanctuary for gamers, beer geeks and lovers of a past era and provides an outlet for adults to recall a certain teenage nostalgia in a modern setting. The concept comes to life through a collaboration between renowned designer Philippe Beltran (BO-Beau kitchen + bar, Draft Republic, OB Warehouse, Indigo Grill), architect Keoni Rosa, and local arcade aficionado Scott Helstrom, who spearheads the ‘Gamers Garage’ at CRG’s popular Corvette Diner.

Formerly a car dealership and most recently a music store venue, Coin Haus incorporates repurposed metal and vintage junkyard machinery into the bar’s unique furniture design and interior space. The industrial atmosphere is highlighted by the original exposed beam ceiling, recycled corrugated metal wall paneling, and floor-to-ceiling garage-style doors that open up to an intimate outdoor patio.

Finding new uses for recycled items, a metal dumpster serves as a unique base below the main bar top, chicken feeders were transformed into lighting, and as a main attraction, a 24-foot long orange shipping container was retrofitted into a standalone self-serve tap system pouring beers from local craft breweries and beyond.
