For a Good Time
PRESS RELEASE
Dual-concept project includes a 20,000 square-foot Mexican restaurant and live music entertainment venue
SAN DIEGO, CA (March 21, 2016) - Good Time Design, best known for opening San Diego’s most popular restaurants and bars, including Moonshine Flats, The Blind Burro, Cat Eye Club and Bub’s at the Ballpark, has opened their first venue in Pacific Beach. Called Cerveza Jack’s, this Mexican eatery and cantina is part of a two-in-one concept that includes Moonshine Beach, a live music entertainment venue and sister concept to Moonshine Flats, that will open in late-April 2016. The adjoining venues are located in the 20,000 square-foot space formerly occupied by Fred’s Mexican Cafe and Typhoon Saloon and are part of a $4 million renovation that will accommodate 1,500 people.
Cerveza Jack’s offers a vibrant open-air environment mixing Mexican elements with laid-back beach style that includes grass floors, driftwood and bamboo accents, and palapa-style roofing. The windows open west towards the Pacific Beach boardwalk allowing for ocean breezes and creating a genuine cantina vibe. The interior features two bars with televisions, a dining room, patio seating, outdoor fire pit and arcade games throughout.
Created by Todd Nash, Executive Chef for Good Time Design, the menu includes both authentic Mexican cuisine and twists on modern street food. Meat and seafood is wood-fired or smoked and served in tacos, burritos, bowls, fries, nachos and machetes, an 18-inch quesadilla that originated in Mexico City and is served on a communal-style wooden board. In true Good Time Design style, Chef Nash keeps the menu approachable and fun with interesting twists like the BST Guacamole (Applewood smoked bacon, scallions, tomatillo), Elote-style Chicken Wings, Grilled Cauliflower, Corn and Quinoa Salad, four varieties of TJ-Style Hotdogs wrapped in bacon and a selection of gourmet tacos ranging from Smoked Carnitas and Al Pastor to Cali Pork Belly and Crispy Calamari.
Along with a classic Margarita, craft and Mexican beer menu, Cerveza Jack’s establishes itself as a true beachside party-spot by serving Buckshots (shots of Wild Turkey served in a shotgun shell, Cerveza Bombers (32 ounce Mexican beers) and 32 ounce Bucket Drinks like the Country Cooler made with rye whiskey, barrel aged bitters, lime and pineapple soda topped with a floating yellow rubber ducky. The Tequila Exchange program runs all day, seven days a week, and works similarly to the New York Stock Exchange, where prices fluctuate based on who is buying what. When the demand is high, prices of tequila shots go up, when the demand is low prices go back down.
“We are, and always have been, unapologetic about bringing San Diego unpretentious and quality venues that serve up great food and entertainment where people really can kick-back and have a great time. That’s why they resonate with people and Cerveza Jack’s is no exception,” said Ty Hauter, owner and operator of Good Time Design. “We are looking forward to late April when we bring Pacific Beach its only major live music entertainment venue with the opening of Moonshine Beach next door.”
Moonshine Beach will serve up a southern Gulf Coast hospitality feel and will feature live music 4 nights per week during winter months and 4+ nights per week during summer months. Weekend entertainment will include today’s best, young and high-energy country acts, regional and national touring acts, and special concert events. On weeknights, Moonshine Beach will present reggae and indie rock acts.
Cerveza Jack’s is open Tuesday-Friday from 3:00 p.m.to 1:30 a.m. and Saturday-Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. and serves food until midnight every day. Taco Tuesday specials start at 4 p.m. and include $2 al pastor, pollo asado and carnitas tacos and $3 carne asada, fish and bacon & shrimp tacos, $5 house margaritas, and 24 ounce Modelo cans for $7. Day drinking specials are offered until 7 p.m. daily and include $3 wells, $5 house margaritas, 2-for-1 Coronas and 1?2 off select appetizers.
