First look: Inside OMNIA San Diego
As intrigue peaks into the April 30 grand reveal of OMNIA San Diego, we take a behind-the-scenes look at the elusive transformation from the former Stingaree space into a Hakkasan Group mega-club downtown.
When guests walk through the doors on the corner of Sixth and Island Ave., they will immediately be immersed into the dark, provocative and intriguing world that is OMNIA, replete with burgundy velvet wallcovering at the ticketing desk and a mirrored portal lined with mesmerizing LED screens.
Party-goers enter the club’s main room, which comes in hot at 8,000 square feet of ornate black, gold and dark walnut tones. Gold leather banquette-style booths surround the dance floor, enhanced with state-of-the-art lighting and sound systems. Look for the signature black and gold custom wall covering and horizontal LED strips pulsating to the beat of music. Then of course, guests can make their way to the main bar before heading upstairs.
For the best view of the club, VIP boxes line the 4,000-square-foot balcony that offers an exclusive vantage point of the dance floor. A separate balcony bar serves libations here, too, designed with a wallcovering reminiscent of tin ceiling patterns.
Continuing upward, a 7,000- square-foot rooftop terrace incites a romantic garden scene under the stars, lined with tiered cabanas, sofas and enchanting greenery.
“While the venue has been updated to create an opulent and elevated experience that incorporates the latest state-of-the-art technology, OMNIA San Diego will, like its predecessor, offers a rooftop space - only OMNIA San Diego’s expansive rooftop will offer unmatched views complemented by an unmatched and immersive nightclub experience,” said Nick McCabe, president of Hakkasan Group.
The rooftop, with views of the Gaslamp, will also feature its own DJ booth mounted on a platform for an enhanced audience experience.
Fifty-five VIP tables give OMNIA San Diego guests looking for an elite experience a place to party. “These include the banquette-style booths on the dance floor and the VIP boxes on the balcony level of the venue,” said McCabe.
OMNIA Las Vegas
Those who have experienced OMNIA Las Vegas might notice some similarities in design. The same architectural firm, Rockwell Group, completed the redesign of the 19,000-square-foot OMNIA San Diego space. The nightclub draws upon, according to McCabe, the equivalent “advanced technology elements including LED screen, LED lighting strips embedded throughout several aspects of the venue, and a colossal lighting system.”
OMNIA San Diego in five words
According to McCabe: “Unexpected, fearless, provocative, inviting, everything.”
“The most significant similarity [to OMNIA Las Vegas] is the lineup of incomparable talent that both venues will offer, including globally-recognized artists such as Afrojack, Armin van Buuren, Krewella, as well as performances by Steve Aoki, Above & Beyond, Dada Life and many more,” said McCabe.
The club also has announced Grammy Award-winning DJ Calvin Harris to headline on Friday, May 1 and R3HAB to take over the decks on Memorial Day weekend, Saturday, May 23.
