Janet Jackson announces her 2017 'State of the World' concert tour

Janet Jackson will perform in 56 North American cities between September and December as part of her "State of the World" concert tour.

The tour kicks off Sept. 7 in Louisiana at the Cajundome in Lafayette, and concludes Dec. 17 in Atlanta. It will include an Oct. 7 performance at San Diego's Valley View Casino Center, followed by an Oct. 8 date at the Hollywood Bowl. (All tour dates and cities appear below, along with ticket information.)

Jackson's San Diego performance will be her first here since her late 2015 concert at SDSU's Viejas Arena. That tour was part of her "Unbreakable World Tour."

Jackson tipped off fans to her tour announcement - in a manner - on Sunday, when a countdown began on her website. But it gave no indication exactly what the countdown was leading to, prompting fans to speculate it could be a new tour or new recording.

In 2016, Jackson postponed 75 North American and European dates of her "Unbreakable World Tour" because she was pregnant. She gave birth to her first son, Eissa, on Jan. 3. She has since separated from her third husband, Wissam Al Mana.

In a video on her website, Jackson explained her decision to change the name of her tour from "Unbreakable" to "State of the World."

"It's not about politics, it's about people, the world, relationships and just love," she said in the video, in which she also notes she has gained weight since becoming a mother. "I want to thank you guys for your patience, for all your support through the years. I am so excited."

Tickets for all concerts go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, and most of them will go on sale at livenation.com and ticketmaster.com.

However, tickets for the San Diego show will go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday at axs.com and by phone at 888.929.7849. Ticket for the San Diego concert are priced between $39.50 and $250 each, plus service charges.
