Vivian Lee of Encinitas in the Marathon de Sables

An aerial shot of competitors in the 2017 Marathon de Sables, a six-day ultramarathon held April 7-17th in Morocco's Sahara Desert. Billed as the toughest foot race in the world, the race is the equivalent of six marathons over six days in sandy and mountainous conditions in temperatures up to 120 degrees Fahrenheit. Among this year's competitors was Encinitas resident Vivian Lee, 46.
