Fergie explains the national anthem rendition that earned laughs: 'Honestly tried my best'

Fergie has explained her, um, unconventional performance of the national anthem that got the former Black Eyed Pea singer widely ridiculed after Sunday’s NBA All-Star Game.

Even some of the players and celebs in the audience couldn’t refrain from cracking up in the video above.

“I’ve always been honored and proud to perform the national anthem and last night I wanted to try something special for the NBA,” the “Fergalicious” singer said in a statement Monday.

“I’m a risk taker artistically, but clearly this rendition didn’t strike the intended tone. I love this country and honestly tried my best,” she concluded.

Tone was never the problem in the singer’s performance, but pacing was. The slow, bluesy rendition suggested Fergie was trying to make “The Star Spangled Banner” sexy — and struck some, including Golden State Warrior Draymond Green, as confusing.

Green was caught with his mouth agape toward the end of the anthem, summing up how many spectators felt about the performance.

The performance comes after a tumultuous year for the Grammy-winning artist born Stacy Ann Ferguson.

In June 2017, the singer departed the Black Eyed Peas to focus on her solo career, releasing a new album, “Double Dutchess,” in September.

That same month, Fergie and husband Josh Duhamel announced their separation after eight years of marriage.
