May was really cool. And we don't mean that in a good way

You won’t have to pay your sunshine tax for May. It was a dreadful month.

For the first time since October 2013, the monthly temperature in San Diego was below average. The average was 63.6 degrees, which is 0.4 degrees below normal.

Yeah, “May Gray” isn’t unusual. But May was cooler and cloudier than normal, especially at the coast.

We’ll be getting off to a better start in June, which begins today.

There will be night and morning low clouds at the coast. But the National Weather Service says skies will clear, and temperatures will reach the upper 60s, and possibly low 70s, in San Diego, with Sunday likely to be the best day.

Inland temperatures will be much warmer; Ramona could hit 90 on Sunday.

The warmer weather arrives in time for the San Diego County Fair, which begins today in Del Mar. The Padres are also home this weekend. They’ll host the Reds.

If you’re going surfing, don’t expect much. The waves will be in the 1’ to 3’ range throughout the weekend. Sea surface temperatures range from 62-66 degrees.
